Jamie is a Google Developer Expert for Android, and tech lead based in Wellington, New Zealand. He started out hacking early Android devices to run custom ROMs, moving into the professional app development space in 2015. He helps organise GDG Wellington and the running of Mobile Refresh. In his spare time, he pursues too many hobbies, including home brewing, photography, and the odd video game.
Testing in Android in 2022
Android has come a long way over the course of its 13-year history, seeing major improvements to how we build and ship apps, and also how we test them. This year sees the release of many new and exciting Android changes, including a brand new way of implementing UI, and new testing tooling and APIs to support this.
In this session, we explore what’s new in Android testing - what’s now officially supported with first-party tooling, and how we can make the most of it. We’ll look specifically at modern UI automation tools and techniques, and how to deploy these effectively across teams of any size.
