Planning to attend

Where is the conference?

Room RHLT1
Rutherford House
Pipitea Campus
Victoria University of Wellington
New Zealand

How many people will be there?

Our venue caters for up to 300 people, so we hope our final number will be close to that.

How do I buy a ticket?

We’re selling tickets on Humanitix. You can purchase multiple tickets for different people at once!

Please head over to our ticket sale page to make your purchase. If you get a 404, try opening the link in incognito mode.

What type of payment do you accept?

We only accept debit or credit card payments on Pin Payments. We do not have the capacity to manage manual bank transfers right now.

I bought a ticket, but forgot to add in attendee details. What do I do?

  1. Locate your confirmation email
    Search your inbox for order@humanitix.com.
If you have not received it, please ask the person who bought your tickets to forward it to you, or update the information on your behalf.

  2. Select the "edit order" or “manage order” button in your confirmation email

  3. Update the attendee/ticket holder information

  4. If you’re the person who bought tickets, forward tickets to attendees by checking “Email Tickets to Attendees” box

  5. Select “save” at the bottom of the page

Humanitix’s official guide to editing attendee details.

I can’t attend anymore. Do I get a refund?

No, our tickets are not refundable. You can transfer your tickets to someone else, the same way you edit attendee details.

Is food and drinks included?

Yes it is! We will provide morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea.

Our co-founders are serious foodies. Please rest assured that the food will be tasty.

Filtered coffee and tea station will be managed by our lovely volunteer.

If you really need expresso style coffee, please feel free to purchase one from the Lab Cafe downstairs.

What dietary needs do you cater for?

Our caterers will aim to cater for any medical or religious dietary requirements. They do not cater for any lifestyle choices (e.g., diets like paleo, keto etc) or personal preferences.

All of their meats are halal except for pork.

Please declare your preferences during registration, or when updating your attendee detail.

What access needs do you accommodate?

Glad you asked; this has been a large part of our focus.

By default, we’re providing these accommodations:

Physical access

First, we picked this venue due to its unparalleled access to public transport and reasonable wheelchair access.

Though we're closing off downstairs entrance to the room to reduce on-stage disruptions, we will let you in upon request during breaks.

The registration, catering, and other activities will be done on the mezzanine on the level above, which is accessible by a nearby elevator or a staircase.

Live caption

We've hired professional human captioner to provide live caption for the whole event. They captioned for some of the largest tech events internationally. This was partially funded by our Accessibility Testing Workshop host, Steve!

The caption will be visible on screen during talks.

NZ Sign Language interpretation

We’ve worked with iSign to secure lovely NZ Sign Language interpreters for our event! There will be interpretation during talks on stage.

But unfortunately, not during break-out/networking moments.

Other

If you require other accommodations, please let us know when you’re purchasing a ticket or email registration@nztestingconf.nz.

Can I attend the conference online?

No, we do not have the capacity to manage an effective hybrid experience this year. But we are seriously researching it for our following events.

We understand not everyone is comfortable with large crowds or can attend in person. We will work hard to slowly make our events more inclusive as we gain more capacity and experience.

Actually, if you have experience hosting a virtual or hybrid event, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch by emailing volunteer@nztestingconf.nz.

We try to compensate by releasing the recording on our YouTube channel as soon as the event finishes. Often within a couple of days.

Do you publish talk recordings afterwards?

Yes, we do!

One of our primary purposes is to grow our community. It’s vital that our content is made available to as many people as we can.

We will endeavour to post all of the recordings on our YouTube channel for free within a few weeks after the event.

And yes, there will be human edited video captions/subtitles.

Conference day

Where is registration?

Upstairs on the mezzanine.

Our lovely volunteers and signage will direct you from the building entrance.

Do I need to bring my ticket?

Yes! Please open your confirmation email with QR code, or print it out, and get it ready for our registration crew.

Can I attend the conference if I miss registration time?

Yes you can.

Please enter through the back door from the mezzanine, or wait until the transition between speakers.

I don’t want my photos taken by the official photographer. How do I let them know?

Upon request, we will provide you with a black lanyard during registration. This will help our photographer and other attendees identify that you do not wish to be photographed.

But we cannot guarantee that we can avoid you completely.

If you do find yourself clearly identifiable in a photograph on our website, then don't hesitate to get in touch with us at info@nztechrally.nz. We will make you unidentifiable, or take the photograph down and delete it from our collection.

How do I view live caption?

We’re dedicated a whole screen to display it in the conference room. But if you prefer to view it on your personal device, use this particular url:

https://streamtext.net/player?event=NZTestingConf

Discord as chat and Q&A tool

This year, we’re borrowing a space in Software Testing New Zealand discord group for both online chat and asking questions to speakers. It’s a trial, so let us know what you think!

Quiz via AhaSlides

We’re once again using AhaSlides to run our interactive quiz session. Feel free to sign up to the quiz early and prepare to snatch those quiz prizes.

Break time activities

Q&A/breakout discussion

This year, we don’t do live audience Questions and Answers.

Instead, we’re designating 2 discussion areas during every break. Speakers who just spoke will be in those area to answer any questions, or discuss contents of their talks.

Casual game tables

Not great with forced small talks?

We’ve setup an area with casual games and activities. Who knows, you might meet a fellow jigsaw puzzle lover, a Jenga master, or a new friend who’s as terrible at crosswords as you are!

Quiet area

We don’t have budget to book a room. Luckily our activities are spread out on the 2nd floor.

We’re blocking off a semi-open corner out for this purpose, and will ask all attendees to respect the area.

I feel unsafe or have witnessed someone being harassed. What do I do?

We take our code of conduct seriously and do not tolerate any harassment.

Please inform one of our staff who'll be wearing a green lanyard immediately.
